Welcome to the Olympus Geological History Museum
At the Olympus Geological History Museum the evolution of Olympus
is shown through geological time.
The museum’s tour is consisted of introduction and exploration of attributes of minerals and rocks
originating on Olympus, as well as exhibits of the same nature from the surrounding area, that show a special
interest about the evolution of the areas fauna and flora.
At the museum, the visitor can see and learn first hand how glaciers
affected Olympus, how the mountain is eroded and how caves and cavities are formed under the surface.
Furthermore, you can admire the minerals which correspond to the ancient scripts “Peri Lithon” or “Lithika”,
written by Orfeus, who lived in Leivithra, situated at the foothills of Olympus.
It’s a well known fact that Leivithra are located inside the area of Leptokarya, in the department of Pieria.
